Mother Meredith is a native of the Philadelphia suburbs who has lived in the Baltimore area since the summer of 2008. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church and joined the United Methodist Church during college. Mother Meredith earned a Bachelor of Music in Church Music from Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL and went directly from there to seminary at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. She met her husband, Derek, while they were both students attending the Episcopal Studies Program weekly Eucharist and dinner. It was at these gatherings that Mother Meredith discovered a deeper love and knowledge of the church’s traditions in liturgy and music and that she felt at home in the Episcopal Church. Finally in December 2000 she was received into the Episcopal Church. Derek shortly followed suit and joined the Episcopal Church (from the Lutheran Church) in late 2001.
During seminary, Mother Meredith was an intern at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta and it was there that she began the initial discernment process in the Diocese of Atlanta. Upon graduation from Candler she worked at Emory University’s Health Sciences Center Library as an inter- library loan librarian while completing the ordination process. In August of 2004, Mother Meredith, Derek and their 14-month old daughter, Greta, moved to NYC in order to pursue a Master of Sacred Theology in Liturgics and an Anglican Studies Diploma at The General Theological Seminary. Shortly after graduating, Mother Meredith was ordained a Deacon in June 2005 and a Priest in July 2006 in Atlanta, GA. In February of 2006, they welcomed another addition to their family, a daughter, Hannah.
Mother Meredith lives in Federal Hill with her husband Derek, an IT professional and author, and their daughters, Greta who is almost 13 and Hannah who is 10. Mother Meredith loves to run, bike, and swim and is a regular competitor in triathlon, running, and cycling races. She is a member of the Howard County Striders, and races for the 90+ Cycling Team. She also enjoys reading, baking and cooking, anything related to history, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
Mother Meredith and her family are thrilled to be part of the St. Barnabas community and look forward to meeting each one of you!
